Functional Responsibilities
The functions/duties/key results of the assignment
The incumbent will operate under the direct supervision of Project Managers, Head of Programmes, Programme Management Advisor or their assignees, and in close coordination with the Programme and Partnerships teams, providing technical expertise to support civil design preparation/overseeing, works supervision, and documentation tasks. Responsibilities include support in ensuring high-quality design documentation, effectiveness, transparency, and integrity, as well as ensuring that site work complies with technical requirements, specifications, timelines, and budget constraints. The incumbent will utilize specialized Civil/Structural Engineering software and applications.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
1. Design and Documentation Support:
•Participate in preparing needs assessments for buildings and structures designated for reconstruction, producing detailed reports.
•Participate in preparing/reviewing civil works design components for projects.
•Support in developing/reviewing Terms of Reference, drawings, technical specifications, scopes of work, bills of quantities, cost estimations, and design calculations.
•Assist in preparing tender documents for consultancy, supply, and construction works and contribute to proposal evaluations.
2. Works Execution Coordination Support:
•Collaborate with project team members to support project planning, scheduling, and integrated design development.
•Conduct site inspection visits and support in preparing detailed site visit reports, noting progress, issues, and photographic documentation (Before, during, and after), along with lessons learned.
•Support in overseeing contract deliverables, ensuring they align with contract terms, high international standards, and UNOPS requirements.
•Participate in coordinating system testing, commissioning, training, and final handover to Beneficiaries.
3. Monitoring and Progress Controls:
•Support in ensuring contractors’ compliance with Quality Management Plan, Health, Safety, Social, and Environmental (HSSE) plans, and international best practices.
Skills
Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education
•A Bachelor degree in Civil/structural Engineering from a recognized University is required.
•Membership of the Lebanese Order of Engineers (Beirut or Tripoli) is mandatory.
•Possession of Project Management Certificates is an asset.
Work Experience
•2 years of experience in design or works execution supervision of Civil works is required.
•Experience in design of steel structures for Solar PV Systems is an asset.
•Experience in computer design software, particularly “AutoCAD” is required.
•Demonstrated computer ability in using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.) is required.
•Experience in computer scheduling software, particularly Primavera and/or MS Projects is highly desirable.
•Work Experience with an international organization and/or UN Agencies will be well regarded.
Certifications (Desirable)
The below certificates are highly desirable:
•Structural Design and Analysis Certifications (e.g., STAAD.Pro Certification, ETABS Certification, SAP2000 Certification, or similar)
•Building Information Modeling (BIM) Certifications (e.g., Revit Certification, Navisworks Certification, or similar)
Languages
•Fluency and communication skills in English and Arabic are required.
•Working knowledge of the French Language is an asset.
