The Faculty of Applied Sciences at the American University of Technology is looking to hire a Laboratory Technician to support undergraduate laboratory courses at our Halat campus. This part-time position requires the candidate to work two days per week from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, including a one-hour lunch break. Flexibility in work hours will be required, depending on the departmental course offerings.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist faculty members with the preparation of laboratory experiments.
• Coordinate with faculty and warehouse associates to promptly address and resolve any issues.
• Operate laboratory equipment and adhere to standardized testing procedures.
• Demonstrate autonomy and a strong initiative, with an analytical approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement. Ability to meet deadlines and handle urgent situations effectively.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and injury-free work environment by following health and safety protocols.
• Evaluate raw materials, laboratory equipment, and instruments.
• Perform swab tests to verify cleanliness of laboratory equipment.
• Calibrate instruments and interpret the results of laboratory tests.
• Maintain accurate reports of laboratory analysis on finished products.
• Prepare solutions, samples, and microbiological media and cultures.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Proven experience in bacteriology, including media preparation, bacterial culturing, sterilization, and waste disposal.
• Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative water analysis techniques.
• Proficiency in analytical chemistry methods such as titrations, spectroscopy, and chromatography.
• Familiarity with common laboratory equipment, including balances and pH meters.
• Extensive experience using UV/Vis spectrophotometers.
• Reliable, with a strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Prior experience in an academic or university setting is a plus.
