ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Provide all necessary specialized medical services in the field of anesthesia and resuscitation. This involves examining the patient one day before the operation, assessing the patient's fitness for anesthesia, ordering necessary tests and consultations, supervising all anesthesia equipment, operating rooms, and services provided in the field of anesthesia and resuscitation.

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

  • Examine the patient one day before the operation, confirm the patient's fitness for anesthesia through consultation with specialized physicians, and perform necessary tests.
  • Instruct the nursing staff on preparing the patient for the operation day, including premedication, fasting periods, and monitor the patient's medications, such as blood pressure and diabetes medications.
  • Inspect anesthesia equipment and all anesthesia-related medications and collect necessary anesthesia tools.
  • Receive the patient upon entering the operating room, review the patient's file for any contraindications to surgery, and prioritize surgical cases.
  • Monitor vital signs before administering anesthesia and document them in the anesthesia report.
  • Monitor the patient during the operation, administer fluids, replace blood loss, and document this in the medical file.
  • Document all complications that occur during anesthesia, such as difficulty breathing and cases of respiratory arrest, and record them.
  • Supervise the patient's recovery and assess the level of consciousness before sending the patient to the ward.
  • Supervise the resuscitation room in the emergency department and ensure its readiness.
  • Supervise anesthesia and resuscitation devices in the hospital and report their readiness.
  • Monitor artificial respiration devices, follow up on the patient, and issue written orders to the anesthesia technician to monitor artificial respiration devices.
  • Train hospital staff on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Participate in meetings and provide information and statistics in the field of anesthesia and resuscitation.
  • Participate in the requisition of medicines, medical supplies, and necessary equipment for the anesthesia department.
  • Participate in solving technical and administrative problems, updating work in the department, and introducing safer anesthesia methods.
  • Cover night shifts within the department and the hospital according to a predetermined schedule.
  • Supervise qualified resident anesthesia staff/anesthesia technicians, and train them in departmental treatment methods, in addition to evaluating their performance.
  • Coordinate with other hospital departments in cases of disasters and mass casualties and contribute to developing an emergency plan.
  • Coordinate with surgical doctors for necessary surgical operations with patient safety given priority.
  • Coordinate with surgical doctors in developing a list of surgical operations that can be performed under limited technical resources in the Azraq hospital.
  • Participate in preparing statistical reports/studies in the anesthesiology specialization (number of operations, complications, etc.).
  • Provide recommendations to identify the department's needs for medical staff, devices, medical equipment, and the need for training courses.

ACCOUNTIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate the service delivery of the anesthesia team, ensuring an integrated, collaborative patient-centered approach.
  • Defining anesthesia nursing/technicians’ objectives, developing/amending technician’s guidelines and protocols and collaborating with the Health Coordinator to achieve training objectives and empowerment of the nursing team.
  • Regularly audit and ensure the maintenance of anesthesia equipment and devices and anesthetic gases/agents.
  •  Keeping a safe anesthesia environment, intervening, and alerting the Health Coordinator in case of security incidents and any breaches of anesthesia SOPs and shortages.
  • In coordination with the Medical Logistician, supervising the appropriate use of anesthesia medical devices and anticipating and communicating future needs, Furthermore, he/she is responsible for management of anesthetic gases/agents. He/she ensures projection of the needs and contribute to preparing medical order with the support of the Medical Logistician,
  • Ensuring effective supervision of the tasks assigned on resuscitation to the In-charge nurses, midwives in maternity and ER.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff in the areas of effective communication and conflict resolution.
  • Documentation and reporting related to service delivery and or professional practice in collaboration with relevant staff.
  • Participate and contribute to an annual work plan for anesthesiology department, in collaboration with Health Coordinator, Medical Coordinator and departmental supervisors.
  • Regularly review and analyze service delivery and other relevant data.

 

Reporting:

  • Report the monthly data and consumption figures to the direct supervisor.
  • Report to Health Coordinator/Pharmacy Supervisor and Medical Coordinator in advance in case of high consumption and/or over prescribed medications that may lead to low stock or stock out.
  • Other reports on anesthesiology as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • University degree in medicine and surgery with a certificate from the Jordanian Medical Council, either through examination, evaluation, or equivalence in the specialization of anesthesia and resuscitation.
  • Minimum 3 years post graduate experience as specialist doctor in anesthesia and resuscitation.

Essential Criteria

  • Familiarity with the use and operation of medical equipment in the anesthesia and resuscitation specialization.
  • Good knowledge of the systems and laws governing the job.
  • CPR (ACLS) certification.

Other Requirement

  • Membership in the Doctors' Syndicate as a specialist doctor in Anesthesiology.
  • Obtained a practice permit.
  • Proficiency in the English language (writing and reading).
