The project includes conducting a needs assessment and situational analysis on palliative
care in the Palestinian camps in Lebanon. The aim of this assessment is to understand the
need for and situation of palliative care inside the camps to inform the development and
provision of palliative care services for people residing in the camps.
The project will include two phases with the following main activities:
Research: Palliative care needs assessment and situational analysis
1. Developing a mixed methods research proposal that aims at assessing the need for
palliative care services and the barriers and facilitators for the provision of
palliative care services in the camps settings.
2. Applying for institutional review board
3. Collecting data (survey, key informant interviews, focus group discussions/one on
one interviews)
4. Assessing and monitoring quality of data being collected
5. Conducting data analysis
6. Writing up of report/manuscript
7. Launching of report.
Awareness raising, capacity building and service delivery:
1. Designing and implementing awareness raising activities targeting general public
in camps.
2. Implementing generalist trainings targeting healthcare professionals in the camps.
3. Ensuring the provision of palliative care services either via expansion of current
services or development of new services.
Project duration: 22 months.
Job Functions and Responsibilities
The research and project coordinator will take lead with the assistance of the heads of
unit on the technical and coordination components of the project. The research and
project coordinator will report to the head of quality, research and development (QRD)
unit.
Conducts literature review and synthesizes findings.
Assists in designing research methodology.
Assists in developing research tools.
Writes research proposal.
Applies to institutional review board.
Coordinates the operations of data collection (quantitative and qualitative).
Monitors the quality of data being collected.
Assist in conducting key informant interviews, one on one interviews and focus
group discussions.
Conducts data cleaning and management.
Conducts quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
Assists in writing results, report and manuscripts.
Assists in dissemination of results to different stakeholders.
Coordinates the implementation and evaluation of generalist training by SANAD’s
training team.
Assists in designing and implementing awareness raising activities.
Coordinates the implementation and evaluation of the service provision phase.
Ensures coordination with different partners and stakeholders.
Ensures write up of progress reports and abiding by project timeline.
Writes minutes of meetings conducted with different project partners.
Technical Skills
Very good knowledge of research methods and analytical methodologies (quantitative
and qualitative)
Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection.
Good knowledge and experience in using statistical analytical software (SPSS or
STATA)
Excellent knowledge and skills in using excel for data analysis and display.
Excellent knowledge and skills in use of PowerPoint.
Very good English writing skills.
Knowledge about palliative care is a plus.

Requirements
Master’s in public health.
A minimum of 2 years of research and project management experience.
