Tank Construction Project Manager

Main Role: A Tank Construction Project Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of construction projects involving storage tanks. This role includes planning, coordinating, and managing all aspects of tank construction to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The Tank Construction Project Manager leads project teams, manages resources, and ensures that quality, safety, and financial goals are met throughout the construction process.


Key Activities:

  • Track and review the progress of construction activities against the project schedule
  • Adjust timelines and schedules as needed based on project developments, delays, or changes
  • Conduct regular site visits to ensure erection activities are proceeding as planned.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on project progress, highlighting any deviations from the schedule
  • Recognize and diagnose engineering issues that arise during construction.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop practical solutions to identified problems
  • Supervise the erection of tanks, including assembly and alignment of components
  • Manage welding operations, ensuring that procedures such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) are performed correctly
  • Ensure that welding work meets quality standards and adheres to project specifications
  • Conduct inspections of welding work to verify proper execution and compliance with standards
  • Oversee the installation and operation of jacking systems used for lifting and positioning tank components
  • Ensure that the jacking system is properly maintained and functioning as intended
  • Monitor the performance of subcontractors to ensure they adhere to project specifications and standards
  • Maintain records of subcontractor performance, equipment inspections, and manpower qualifications


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Master’s degree is preferred

Several years of experience in construction project management, particularly in tank construction or similar industrial projects. Typically, 10-15 years of experience is expected


Technical knowledge, skills & abilities required:

Ability to develop and manage detailed project plans and schedules.

Skills in preparing and managing project budgets, tracking costs, and financial reporting.

Ability to lead and motivate a diverse project team, including engineers, contractors, and subcontractors.

Ability to make informed decisions based on analysis, experience, and available data.

Keen attention to detail in monitoring project progress and identifying discrepancies.

Ability to identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Openness to implementing new technologies or methods that can improve project outcomes.
