Pet Store Branch Manager



Position Overview

The Branch Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of daily operations at the pet store location, ensuring excellent customer service, maintaining animal welfare standards, and achieving business objectives while leading a team of pet care professionals.

Key Responsibilities



Store Operations Management

- Direct daily store operations including opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and inventory management

- Maintain store appearance, cleanliness, and merchandising standards

- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations regarding both customers and animals

- Oversee proper animal care protocols, including feeding, habitat maintenance, and health monitoring

- Manage inventory levels, place orders, and coordinate with suppliers

- Monitor and maintain store equipment and facilities, scheduling repairs as needed



Team Leadership

- Recruit, hire, train, and develop store staff

- Create and manage employee schedules

- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback

- Foster a positive work environment and strong team culture

- Lead by example in customer service and animal care

- Ensure staff compliance with company policies and procedures



Financial Management

- Meet or exceed sales targets and profit goals

- Manage payroll and operating expenses within budget

- Analyze sales data and inventory reports to make informed business decisions

- Implement loss prevention strategies

- Process and reconcile daily transactions

- Prepare and submit required financial reports



Customer Service

- Ensure delivery of exceptional customer service throughout the store

- Handle customer complaints and resolve complex issues

- Build and maintain relationships with regular customers

- Oversee pet adoption processes when applicable

- Implement and maintain customer loyalty programs



Animal Care and Welfare

- Ensure proper care and handling of all animals in the store

- Maintain accurate health records for store animals

- Coordinate with veterinarians for animal health care needs

- Enforce proper quarantine procedures when necessary

- Train staff on species-specific care requirements



Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field (or equivalent experience)

- 3+ years of retail management experience

- Previous experience in pet retail or animal care industry is s plus

- Strong leadership and team management skills

- Excellent customer service and communication abilities

- Proficiency in retail management software and POS systems

- Knowledge of animal care and handling procedures

- Understanding of retail metrics and financial management



Preferred Qualifications

- Pet industry certifications

- Experience with pet nutrition and animal health

- Knowledge of aquarium systems and maintenance

- Bilingual abilities

- Experience with visual merchandising

- Background in veterinary assistance or animal welfare



Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand for extended periods

- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds

- Comfortable handling various types of animals

- Ability to move throughout the store and storage areas

- Visual and auditory ability to observe animal behavior and health



Work Environment

- Fast-paced retail environment

- Exposure to animal sounds, odors, and dander

- Variable schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays

- Temperature-controlled indoor setting

- May require travel between store locations
