المؤهلات/المهارات الخاصة

Duties and Responsibilities
Background: ESCWA supports evidence-based policymaking and regional cooperation on population issues in the Arab region, with a focus on demographic change, ageing, and migration. Its work includes analyzing population trends and their impact on sustainable development, researching the wellbeing of older persons, and helping governments develop ageing-related policies and strategies. ESCWA also conducts research on migration patterns and policies, including publishing reports and maintaining a regional database of migration laws and regulations to support better migration governance and refugee protection. Duties and Responsibilities: To support these efforts, ESCWA is seeking an intern who will research migration-related laws and policies in Arab countries, analyze and summarize findings, and enter information into the migration database. - Conduct research and analysis on population dynamics, ageing, and migration trends in the Arab region. - Support the preparation of reports and policy briefs on demographic and socioeconomic issues. - Assist in gathering and analyzing data related to population growth, fertility, ageing, and migration. - Contribute to the development of evidence-based policy recommendations. - Support technical assistance activities aimed at strengthening national policies and strategies on ageing. - Assist in organizing capacity-building workshops, training sessions, and high-level meetings. - Prepare background materials, presentations, and meeting documentation. - Facilitate coordination with government representatives, experts, and development partners on population and ageing-related initiatives.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above); 2. Applicants must: (a) be computer literate in standard software applications. (b) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and (c) have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No previous work experience is required for this job opening.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, (fluency OR knowledge of) in (Insert language) is (required OR desirable). Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
