Position: Generalist Field Officer

Location: Beirut, Lebanon

Contract: 1 year, (renewable based on performance and need for position)

Job Summary:

Generalist Field Officer contributes to defining, implementing, and monitoring ICRC projects and activities (depending on the context: general management, protection, assistance, cooperation, communication, or others) in coordination with the structure’s management, and to representing the ICRC at local/national level.

Objectives and Tasks:

  • Implements and follows up various field activities, in accordance with objectives.
  • Monitors the humanitarian environment and needs.
  • Analyses the security, socio-economic, cultural and political environment as relevant to the ICRC (regional/national/local level). Shares pertinent information with colleagues and reports any changes in the situation.
  • Contributes to designing/setting the orientation of the programmes and projects.
  • Collects, compiles, translates/interprets information about the projects and contributes to written reporting.
  • Participates in and holds internal and external meetings and develops and maintains contacts with high-level municipal/regional authorities, local/regional Red Cross/Red Crescent Society branches, non-governmental organizations (local and international) and the population.
  • Participates in administrative follow-up of field missions.

General duties:

  • Understands and adheres to the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
  • Understands and adheres to the ICRC Code of Conduct.
  • Understands the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
  • Always respects and observes staff regulations and security rules
  • Always represents the ICRC in a professional manner.
  • Develops and maintains a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line manager.
  • Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC.
  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other colleagues when necessary.

Additional Duties:

  • Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence with the relevant contacts and departments.
  • Is aware of the delegation’s objectives and has a good knowledge of the Movement and other contacts relevant to the position.
  • Collects and shares information to improve the ICRC’s understanding of the environment and humanitarian trends and responses.
  • Represents the ICRC in an appropriate way during activities, in meetings and in the field, and avoids any activity that may reflect negatively on the ICRC’s image.

Job Details:

Job Location: Beirut, Lebanon - with frequent travel and overnight to Bekaa and South.

Working Schedule: Monday till Friday, from 8 Am till 5 Pm.

Contract Type: 1 year (renewable based on performance and need for position).

Salary Package: USD 2,897 - 4,049 (As per ICRC salary scale, salary setting processes will determine fair setting in coherence with the qualifications of the applicant and the requirements of the job).

Skills

Position Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Years of experience required: 4 to 6 years of total work experience in a related field, including - at least 3 years of experience as a manager or programme officer in similar position at the ICRC or an international/non-governmental organization.

Level of education: Bachelor’s Degree. Master’s Degree is a plus.

Field of education: Political sciences, social sciences, or any other job relevant field

Languages: Fluency in Arabic and English, French is a strong asset.

Computer Literacy: Advanced computer skills in MS Windows and MS Office Suite.
