KEY RESPONSIBILTIES
- Develop the concept/preliminary design for projects of low and average complexity and assist the design section manager in developing them for projects of high complexity according to the design manual and acquired best practices in order to have and optimal constructive design within budget and conform to contractual requirements.
- Break down detailed design and calculation note work for simple and average complexity projects, set tasks priorities and fairly dispatch related assignments to design engineers and CAD operators, supervise their work and provide necessary directions when needed to meet the expected output within deadlines.
- Perform design modelling, prepare accurate calculation notes and develop detailed designs for complex projects according to the related design manual and predefined design concept in order to deliver error free design, on time, as well as clear and presentable calculation notes.
- Prepare and update the materials take-off taking into consideration that design quantities and specifications do not surpass the allocated budget for the project, define specifications for new materials used in the project while protecting both the company and the client’s interests.
- Conduct audit/inspection visits to manufacturer for materials acceptance and provide recommendations to section engineer regarding the quality of relevant products.
- Supervise the preparation and submittal of as-built drawings and coordinate with design engineers to create Operations & Maintenance Manuals so as to ensure efficient maintenance work on the project site.
- Attend internal and external meetings to exchange information and take actions on technical matters.
- Do internal and external technical presentations to give an update on project progress, inform on important technical matters and share acquired knowledge and experience.
- Validate letters written by lower levels and prepare technical reports in order to give clear and accurate information on the current work status while minimizing the risks on BUTEC.
- Coordinate with external (subcontractors, “bureau de contrôle”, etc..) and internal parties (site project, other sections/departments), perform design reviews, provide efficient technical backup when needed to solve encountered problems, escalate complex ones and ensure the work schedule is performed in harmony between concerned parties according to the contract requirements and internal needs.
- Perform QA/QC activities for his own, peers and lower levels’ designs to detect, analyze and eliminate discrepancies while learning from own or others’ mistakes.
- Coach engineers at lower levels in order to integrate them in the work and train them to ensure their continuous skill level improvement.
- Learn from own and others experience in order to increase capability and skill level and lower the risk of repeating the same, or the same type of mistakes.
