Job Purpose:

The Security Assistant will be responsible to perform a range of specialized, process-oriented tasks related to security operations, including monitoring and maintaining security equipment according to established procedures. The role will focus on supporting humanitarian convoy missions while contributing to the implementation and evaluation of security measures. The incumbent will also coordinate with local security stakeholders, including the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), and in-country security management, on matters such as movements, clearances, access, and convoy mobilization. Additional responsibilities include supporting security risk management, overseeing security equipment during missions, briefing drivers on security protocols, and providing security orientation to new staff.

The selected candidate will be required to have strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, adaptability in dynamic environments while demonstrate teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing security risks.

Key Responsibilities (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive):

  • Assist in reviewing security threats and risks, compile accurate reports on trends and situations that could adversely impact WFP operations to ensure information is accurately collated to support reporting and decision-making.
  • Review security-related information (e.g. security incidents and events, security support to daily activities, etc.) and use corporate or local information management tools to provide basic analyses and reports to ensure information is readily available for relevant stakeholders. 3.
  • Liaise and coordinate with local administration, security and law enforcement authorities, communities, UN/NGO security staff and other actors to facilitate access for safe programme delivery and to mitigate potential risks against staff and other resources.
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, preparing and conducting field missions including tracking of staff, and perform regular security assessments in the area of responsibility to support safe and effective programme delivery.
  • Prepare detailed security assessment reports after field missions with risk mitigation recommendations to support security situation analysis and facilitate decision-making.
  • Assist in the formulation of advice to Country Director on security risk management matters and safety issues in compliance with the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS).
  • Assist in implementation of all security risk management mitigating measures, including Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) to ensure compliance.
  • Assist in management and maintenance of security equipment and identify new requirements to strengthen technology capacity in line with business requirements.
  • Assist in monitoring that all access control procedures are effective and stringently followed by all staff and visitors to ensure accountability and maintenance of safe and secure environment.
  • Contribute to the development and update of emergency and contingency planning documentation including physical preparations and procedures to support
  • Assist in identification of security training needs to support training planning and implementation to address staff development needs.
  • Supervise and provide on-the-job training to other staff supporting their development and high performance.


Skills

Required Experiences for entry into the role:

  • Experience in administration/coordination/ cooperation with different stakeholders of diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Good theoretical understanding of security management concepts and principals principles with a knowledge of best practices, techniques and processes in the security field.
  • Knowledge of humanitarian convoys preparations, execution, 
  • Good communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to different situations and individuals.
  • Ability to assimilate a range of information and make basic analyses to support the development of efficient solutions.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and time constraints, displaying patience and tact with internal and external interlocutors
  • Good political and social knowledge of the country.
  • Experience applying knowledge of security operations technical processes and to provide ad hoc technical guidance

Desired Experiences for entry into the role:

  • Experience in any UN sister agency or any large company/organization in the field of security is a plus.
  • Ability to contribute to and/or deliver effective briefing and training, assessing participant needs 
  • Knowledge of common business principles and processes and the ability to quickly assimilate UN/WFP specific processes and systems.

STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Completion of secondary education, supplemented by relevant technical/military/police courses and/or university courses in a relevant discipline.

Experience: At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in security operations, security risk management, preferably in humanitarian or non-profit sector.  Police/security background and military experience is desirable.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic. Knowledge of French language is desirable.
