Job Summary:

The Business Unit Manager is responsible for the overall management and leadership of a specific business unit within the pharmaceutical company. This includes driving the strategic direction, achieving financial targets, managing a cross-functional team, and ensuring the success of the unit’s products or services in the market.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Planning:
  • Develop and implement the business unit's strategic plan, aligning with the company's overall objectives.
  • Identify growth opportunities within the therapeutic area or market segment.
  • Set clear goals and KPIs for the unit, and ensure alignment with corporate strategies.
  1. Financial Management:
  • Prepare and manage the business unit’s budget, including revenue forecasts, expense management, and profitability targets.
  • Analyze financial performance, ensuring that the unit meets or exceeds its financial goals.
  • Oversee pricing strategies, cost management, and profit margins.
  1. Sales & Marketing:
  • Lead the sales and marketing teams to develop and execute effective marketing campaigns and sales strategies.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to adapt strategies as needed.
  • Foster relationships with key customers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
  1. Product Management:
  • Oversee the lifecycle management of products within the business unit, from development through commercialization.
  • Ensure timely and successful product launches with cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and quality standards.
  1. Team Leadership:
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a cross-functional team including sales, marketing, finance, and operations.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-driven culture within the team.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and support to team members.
  1. Regulatory & Compliance:
  • Ensure that all activities within the business unit comply with local and international regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with the regulatory affairs to stay updated on changes in regulations and their impact on the business.
  • Ensure that marketing and sales practices adhere to ethical and compliance standards.
  1. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Engage with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, and industry stakeholders to build strong relationships.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, meetings, and events.
  • Gather feedback from customers and stakeholders to inform product development and business strategies.
  1. Reporting & Analysis:
  • Prepare regular reports on the business unit's performance, including sales data, financials, and market analysis.
  • Present findings and strategic recommendations to senior management.
  • Use data and analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.

  • Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, pharmacy, life sciences, or a related field; an MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
    • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 3-5 years in a management role.
    • Skills: Strong leadership, strategic thinking, financial acumen, and communication skills. Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and drive business growth.
    • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, including regulatory requirements, market dynamics, and product lifecycle management.
