About Azahir
Azahir is a community-based Lebanese NGO working in the most marginalized areas of northern Lebanon to serve and empower vulnerable children and refugees in Akkar and Nahr el Bared Refugee Camp. Azahir provides essential education, psycho-social support (PSS), positive parenting and training and development opportunities. We prioritize human rights, child protection, and cultural heritage and put the needs and strengths of the community at the heart of our programming.
Azahir runs two Community Centers: One in Nahr el Bared Palestinian Refugee Camp, and the other in Tel Maayan village in Akkar. We serve children 12 months of the year with both a school-year and a summer program in Education, PSS, Sports and Cultural Heritage Activities.
Azahir has been responding to Lebanon's displacement crisis over the past 4 months in supporting thousands of families that fled the bombardments on Beirut, the South, and across Lebanon.
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Grant Writer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in securing funding for non-profit organizations in the Arab region, with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by marginalized and refugee communities and emergency settings. This role requires a combination of independent work ethic and collaborative spirit, as you will be engaging with our dynamic ground team to gather crucial information for grant proposals.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the humanitarian sector in Lebanon and able to utilize its own professional network of contacts and organizations when identifying grant opportunities for Azahir to apply to.
Required
Fluency in Arabic and English is required. Travel to Nahr el Bared Camp and Tel Maayan, Akkar is required. Visits to these communities and meetings with the Azahir Team will be crucial to the grant process and collecting information, but the grant writing process can be done from home. Travel expenses will be covered. The candidate will be reporting to the Azahir Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Identification and Research:
● Proactively search for and identify potential grant opportunities that align with Azahir’s mission and programs.
● Evaluate eligibility criteria to ensure Azahir meets all requirements before applying.
● Network with the humanitarian sector and individuals in Lebanon including with international and national NGOs, embassies and UN agencies.
Proposal Development:
● Lead the drafting process for grant applications, ensuring all components are complete, accurate, and compelling.
● Work closely with Azahir’s ground team to gather factual data and program insights necessary for robust proposal development.
● Work closely with the Executive Director who will read first drafts offer support for revisions.
● Tailor grant applications to highlight Azahir's strengths and the impact of its programs on target communities.
Collaboration and Communication:
● Maintain open communication with supervisors and team members to ensure alignment on grant priorities and application content.
● Seek input, support and approval from team members to fulfill submission requirements.
● Provide progress updates on ongoing applications and immediately address any emerging challenges.
Grant Management and Reporting:
● Assist in managing awarded grants, ensuring compliance with funders’ guidelines and Azahir’s principles.
● Prepare and submit required reports to funding bodies, summarizing the use of funds and the outcomes achieved.
Qualifications:
- Previous success in securing grants for community-based or non-profit organizations, preferable if in areas related to child protection, education, or human rights.
- Fluency in English and Arabic: Full proficiency required.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by marginalized and refugee communities.
- Experience with the humanitarian sector in Lebanon, including familiarity with UN agencies, international NGOs, local NGOs, and other actors.
- Excellent research, writing, and editing skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with the Azahir Team in North Lebanon.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with online grant management systems.
- Ability to visit Nahr el Bared Camp & Akkar, with reimbursement for travel expenses.
