Job Summary:
The Business Unit Manager is responsible for the overall management and leadership of a specific business unit within the pharmaceutical company. This includes driving the strategic direction, achieving financial targets, managing a cross-functional team, and ensuring the success of the unit’s products or services in the market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning:
- Develop and implement the business unit's strategic plan, aligning with the company's overall objectives.
- Identify growth opportunities within the therapeutic area or market segment.
- Set clear goals and KPIs for the unit, and ensure alignment with corporate strategies.
- Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage the business unit’s budget, including revenue forecasts, expense management, and profitability targets.
- Analyze financial performance, ensuring that the unit meets or exceeds its financial goals.
- Oversee pricing strategies, cost management, and profit margins.
- Sales & Marketing:
- Lead the sales and marketing teams to develop and execute effective marketing campaigns and sales strategies.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to adapt strategies as needed.
- Foster relationships with key customers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
- Product Management:
- Oversee the lifecycle management of products within the business unit, from development through commercialization.
- Ensure timely and successful product launches with cross-functional teams.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and quality standards.
- Team Leadership:
- Manage, mentor, and develop a cross-functional team including sales, marketing, finance, and operations.
- Foster a collaborative and results-driven culture within the team.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and support to team members.
- Regulatory & Compliance:
- Ensure that all activities within the business unit comply with local and international regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with the regulatory affairs to stay updated on changes in regulations and their impact on the business.
- Ensure that marketing and sales practices adhere to ethical and compliance standards.
- Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Engage with key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals, and industry stakeholders to build strong relationships.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, meetings, and events.
- Gather feedback from customers and stakeholders to inform product development and business strategies.
- Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare regular reports on the business unit's performance, including sales data, financials, and market analysis.
- Present findings and strategic recommendations to senior management.
- Use data and analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, pharmacy, life sciences, or a related field; an MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with at least 3-5 years in a management role.
- Skills: Strong leadership, strategic thinking, financial acumen, and communication skills. Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and drive business growth.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, including regulatory requirements, market dynamics, and product lifecycle management.
