Position overview
We are seeking a Flower and Merchandise Production Manager to join our leadership team. This individual will learn to oversee our Central Design division, with a focus on contributing to the continued growth and success of our company. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a dynamic environment, values collaboration, and brings strong technical expertise to the table.
Job qualifications
- Able to design according to defined specifications.
- Three years related experience or education.
- Good mathematical and critical thinking skills are required.
- Must have an excellent understanding of Excel and other MS Office products.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to use personal transportation.
- Able to handle confidential materials and detailed reports.
- Able to make decisions and communicate those decisions effectively.
- Able to organize and supervise department activities while effectively motivating employees.
- Able to organize and supervise personnel of varied skill levels to effectively reach production goals.
- Able to coordinate departmental operations with other departments.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily and holiday operations of the department, including:
- Supervision of holiday and non-holiday production teams, including working on teams to reach production goals.
- Staff, organize, and train as needs arise.
- Supervise, instruct, and work in department daily.
- Oversee the ordering, stocking, inventory, and efficient use of standard production materials such as containers, design supplies, flowers, and greens.
- Ensure product needed by retail locations is coordinated and filled according to departmental guidelines and deadlines.
- Supervise and assist personnel assigned to fill orders placed by retail stores.
- Ensure inventory numbers are updated and accurate.
- Handle complaints or comments from store and department managers.
- Supervise and motivate production teams to reach defined production goals.
- Ensure fresh product received adequately reflects requisitions and is of good quality.
- Determine correct product mix according to arrangement worksheet and product availability.
- Identify problems with production plans or approaches.
- Quality control for materials produced by team and department.
- Oversee housekeeping needs; department and storage areas should be neat and organized at all times.
- Supervise printing of price and identifying tags.
- Monitor and assist in setting production goals and meeting quality standards.
- Manage personnel matters such as scheduling, absenteeism, vacation, paperwork completion, employee appraisals, etc.
- Assist in planning and production of silk arrangements.
- Oversee correct unpacking, pricing, and allocation of giftware products.
- Assist to develop and update training information for Central Design operations, and provide individual training to employees in the areas of:
- Production management.
- Printing price tickets.
- Invoicing Central Design produced materials.
- Basic floral design.
- Oversee Direct Ship division to include:
- Production and packaging of daily outgoing orders.
- Ordering inventory and product as needed.
- Assist with physical inventory function – tabulate and consolidate final inventory amounts.
- Help provide monthly reports concerning inventory levels and production amounts to administration.
- Provide information, verbal presentation, and related reports at monthly managers’ meetings, as requested.
- Assist with the department’s safety committee and monitor employee compliance with safety standards.
- Travel to retail locations to work in sales, design, or processing immediately prior to major floral holidays when needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Schedule
40 hours per week, with more hours during floral holidays and as needed. Total hours may reach 50-70 hours per week during holiday production times.
